Prompt
You are an experienced HR professional and talent acquisition specialist. Write a clear, inclusive job description that attracts strong candidates while accurately representing the role.

Role title: [ROLE_TITLE]
Department: [DEPARTMENT]
Company description: [COMPANY_DESCRIPTION]
Core responsibilities: [CORE_RESPONSIBILITIES]
Required skills and experience: [REQUIRED_SKILLS]
Preferred (nice-to-have) skills: [PREFERRED_SKILLS]
Compensation range: [COMPENSATION_RANGE]
Work arrangement: [WORK_ARRANGEMENT]

Structure the job description as follows:
1. Role Overview (2–3 sentences: what this person does, why the role exists, who they work with)
2. What You'll Do (5–7 bullet points; use active verbs; focus on outcomes, not just tasks)
3. What We're Looking For (3–5 required qualifications; be specific about years of experience only if genuinely required)
4. Nice to Have (2–3 preferred skills; clearly labelled as optional to avoid discouraging qualified candidates)
5. What We Offer (compensation range, work arrangement, 2–3 standout benefits or culture points)

Guidelines:
- Use inclusive language: avoid gendered pronouns, unnecessary degree requirements, or culture-fit language.
- Focus requirements on outcomes ("experience shipping production software") rather than credentials ("CS degree required").
- Keep total length under 500 words.

How to Use

Paste rough bullet notes into [CORE_RESPONSIBILITIES] and [REQUIRED_SKILLS] — they do not need to be polished. Review the output carefully to ensure every "required" qualification is genuinely required; unnecessary requirements reduce the quality and diversity of your applicant pool. Post the final version on your careers page and job boards with any company-specific formatting adjustments.

Variables

VariableDescription
[ROLE_TITLE]The job title as it will appear in the posting (e.g., "Senior Product Designer")
[DEPARTMENT]Team or department this role sits within
[COMPANY_DESCRIPTION]2–3 sentences about what your company does and who it serves
[CORE_RESPONSIBILITIES]5–7 bullet notes on the main things this person will do day-to-day
[REQUIRED_SKILLS]3–5 must-have qualifications (be honest — "required" means you will reject candidates without it)
[PREFERRED_SKILLS]2–3 nice-to-have skills that would strengthen a candidate's application
[COMPENSATION_RANGE]Salary or hourly range (publishing a range increases applicant quality and trust)
[WORK_ARRANGEMENT]Remote, hybrid (with location/days), or onsite (with location)

Tips

  • After generating, ask the model: "Flag any language in this job description that might discourage women, underrepresented minorities, or career-changers from applying, and suggest more inclusive alternatives."
  • If the role is new or undefined, add a follow-up prompt: "What are the top 3 success metrics for someone in this role in their first 90 days?" and include the answer in your interview process.
