You're the person who "handles the tech" for a five-person shop, and the question this week is which AI subscriptions deserve rupees. You don't need the hundred-tool listicle. You need a number you can defend to a partner. This post gives you three costed setups for an AI tools small business stack under ₹5,000 a month, built only from prices I could read on 2026-10-30, with the arithmetic in a script you can edit.
Two honest limits first. Many Indian price pages are rendered by JavaScript and returned no rupee amounts to me, so some rows below are marked press-reported. And I haven't used these tools as a business owner; this is a costing exercise, not a recommendation from experience.
What does each piece of an AI stack cost in India?
Only these rows have a source I could stand behind. "Vendor page" means I read it on 2026-10-30.
| Item | Price | Source status |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Free plan | $0 | Vendor pricing page (Pro is $20/month, or $200 up front for a year; page shows dollars only) |
| Notion Free | $0 | Vendor pricing page (Plus $10 and Business $20 per member/month, dollars) |
| Google Workspace Business Starter | ₹270 per user per month, excluding tax | Vendor India page, listed under annual commitment with 16 percent saving |
| Google Workspace Business Standard | ₹1,080 per user per month list; an introductory ₹864 from 13 Nov 2026 for the first 20 users for 12 months | Vendor India page |
| AICredits pay-as-you-go | Wallet in ₹; live forex rate plus a 5 percent buffer and 5 percent platform fee; top-ups via Razorpay | Vendor page; the minimum top-up was stated inconsistently (₹50 in one place, "₹100+" in another) |
| Hostinger VPS KVM 2 | ₹779/month promo, ₹1,199/month renewal; 24-month term, ₹18,696 paid upfront | Vendor India page |
| ChatGPT Go | ₹399/month | Press-reported (August 2025); OpenAI's own pricing page returned 403 to me |
| Google AI Plus | ₹399/month, with ₹199 for the first six months for new users | Press-reported (December 2025); Google's plans page showed no amounts |
Google's page also says Business Starter includes Gemini in Gmail and chat, with Gemini in other apps "Limited", while Standard includes it in Docs and Meet. Whether that's enough is your call; I haven't tested either.
Which three stacks fit under ₹5,000?
I defined them by team size and need, then costed each with a script. Everything is monthly and before tax. The wallet figures are budgets I picked, not vendor prices.
- Solo: Claude Free, Notion Free, a ₹300 wallet for occasional API tasks.
- Team of 3: Workspace Business Starter for three users, one ChatGPT Go seat for the person who chats with a model all day, a ₹500 wallet.
- Team of 3 plus automation: the above plus a small server for a self-hosted workflow tool.
Here is the script (plain Python, no libraries). The TAX constant is a placeholder.
TAX = 0.18 # placeholder; set to what your invoices actually show
STACKS = {
"Solo": [("Claude Free", 0, 1, "V"), ("Notion Free", 0, 1, "V"),
("AICredits wallet", 300, 1, "U")],
"Team of 3": [("Workspace Starter, per user", 270, 3, "V"),
("ChatGPT Go (press-reported)", 399, 1, "P"),
("AICredits wallet", 500, 1, "U")],
"Team of 3 plus automation": [("Workspace Starter, per user", 270, 3, "V"),
("ChatGPT Go (press-reported)", 399, 1, "P"),
("AICredits wallet", 500, 1, "U"),
("Hostinger KVM 2 promo", 779, 1, "V")],
}
for name, rows in STACKS.items():
sub = sum(p * q for _, p, q, _ in rows)
unv = sum(p * q for _, p, q, f in rows if f != "V")
print(f"{name}: ex-tax {sub}, with tax {round(sub*(1+TAX))}, not vendor-verified {unv}")
I ran it on 2026-10-30 and got:
Solo: ex-tax 300, with 18% tax 354, of which not vendor-verified 300
Team of 3: ex-tax 1709, with 18% tax 2017, of which not vendor-verified 899
Team of 3 plus automation: ex-tax 2488, with 18% tax 2936, of which not vendor-verified 899
Even the largest setup lands under ₹3,000 with a placeholder tax. That leaves room under the ₹5,000 cap, and the useful question is what to do with the gap. My answer: nothing until a real task justifies it. Swap Starter for Standard on one seat if the person drafting documents all day needs Gemini inside Docs, which adds ₹810 for that seat at list price.
How do you cost an API task instead of guessing?
The wallet row is the one that surprises people, in a good way. A scheduled script is billed by tokens, not seats. Using the GPT-4o-mini rates on AICredits' page on 2026-10-30 (₹13.23 input, ₹52.92 output per million tokens), I costed a job that classifies 2,000 support emails with about 1,500 input and 300 output tokens each:
2000 emails: input 39.69, output 31.75, total 71.44 INR
Those token counts are an assumption; measure your own with a few real emails. The rate floats with the dollar, so rerun the numbers monthly. Our AICredits review covers the wallet, and the GST invoice post covers paperwork. If you want to try the wallet, AICredits is the one I'd start with because it takes UPI, but the model-by-model rates are worth comparing first.
Do you need the self-hosted server?
Probably not at the start. The KVM 2 row looks like ₹779 a month, but the promo needs 24 months paid up front: ₹18,696 in one go, then ₹1,199 a month at renewal per the vendor page. The script confirms the per-month equivalent:
KVM 2 upfront 18696 = per month over 24: 779.0
That is a cash-flow decision a partner should see. Buy it when you have a workflow running on a free or hosted tool that you've outgrown, and you or someone you trust can maintain a server. Our VPS review lists the trade-offs, and the plain alternative is a hosted automation tool on a monthly plan. Some links on this page are affiliate links; they cost you nothing and I only link tools I'd mention anyway. If you do buy a server, the Hostinger VPS link is mine, and the post works fine without it.
What should you skip?
- Overlapping chat subscriptions. Two paid assistants for the same person is the most common waste. Pick one and let free tiers cover the rest.
- Annual prepay before a month of use. Claude Pro's annual price is $200 up front; try monthly first.
- Tools bought for a task you haven't defined. Write the task first. Our small business prompts and automation ideas help you list candidates.
A 15-minute audit to run before you subscribe
Untested template; paste it into any assistant with your own list:
Here are the tools my team pays for, with monthly cost and how many people use each at least weekly: [LIST].
For each, tell me whether a free tier or a tool I already pay for covers the same job.
Output a table: tool, monthly cost, weekly users, overlap, keep or cancel, and what I'd lose by cancelling.
Do not guess prices; use only the ones I gave you.
The "weekly users" column is the useful one. A seat nobody opens weekly is the first cancellation.
Unverified
- ChatGPT Go and Google AI Plus rupee prices (press-reported, may be stale).
- Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro rupee prices: not found on vendor pages.
- GST treatment of each vendor's invoice.
- Tool quality for your task. I only costed; I didn't test.
